“The potential for a new form of media art is emerging: networked, customizable interfaces built by individuals and communities ~ accelerated by new methods of making.
For some, TouchDesigner is an introduction to this way of thinking — it provides an accessible, modular relationship with data, allowing its users to imagine and build their own interfaces.
As these interfaces become networked, new questions emerge: How might independently created systems speak to each other? What kinds of shared languages, behaviours and movements might develop between them?
Transmissive Substrates is an invitation to explore these questions by creating works and interfaces that receive, emit and participate in a network of humans, light and data.
We put these ideas into practice by building a transmissive work together in TouchDesigner, connecting sensors, phones and computers through live data.”
Considerations:
Prior knowledge of or interest in new-media tools and practices is an asset: TouchDesigner, Isadora, Max/MSP, film, animation, or other time- or performance-based media.
A laptop is helpful but not necessary.
